Kanye west 'Yeezus': The reviews are in

The wait is over and the reviews are in for Kanye West's album, "Yeezus."

The 10-track offering is West's sixth studio album, following 2011's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," and quite possibly his most talked about project before its actual release. Now that "Yeezus" is officially available, critics, fans and other artists are sharing their thoughts about the rapper/producer, and his darkest album to date.

Jumping from house ("Hold My Liquor"), to techno ("On Sight"), to sampling a song about a lynching (Nina Simone's "Strange Fruit"), West is all over the place. But does it work?
"Every mad genius has to make a record like this at least once in his career," wrote Jon Dolan of Rolling Stone, which gave the album 4 out of 5 stars.  "Being a work of Kanye West, 'Yeezus' is also a brilliant, obsessive-compulsive career auto-correct."

Others outlets like Pitchfork, who gave the album a 9.5/10, also heaped praise.
"'Yeezus' is something of a razor-sharpened take on 2008's distressed '808's & Heartbeak,' and marks a blunt break with the filigreed maximalism Kanye so thoroughly nailed on 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,'" wrote Ryan Dombal.
Others weren't so kind.
"Ultimately, 'Yeezus' is the least likable album Kanye’s ever made," wrote Ryan Reed of Paste.
One of the biggest gripes about "Yeezus" has been the seemingly lyrical laziness on tracks like "Black Skinhead," where he boasts about how he "Keeps it 300 like the Romans." Yeah, somewhere the ghost of King Leonidas and 300 Spartans are rolling in their graves. Not to mention, there is little to no mention of West's newborn daughter or baby mama.
"Despite a handful of arresting quirks and kinks, the lyrics on 'Yeezus' are West’s least refined and probably his least compelling," wrote Chris Richards of The Washington Post.
